This is happening in quite a few communities that I know of. The company I work for, for one (a local/ld CLEC that got into the cable fray during the height of the telecom boom) runs our cable system right along Mediacom's. We also have some competitive cable properties in SD, Minnesota, and (I think) Missouri.
Just from what I've noticed from OUR customers, it seems to me that quality of service is just as (if not more) important than the price.
