If you look at these fractions of the population and do a little multiplication:
People who ever get spam (not everyone)
People who ever read spam (small fraction?)
People who read spam and are also idiots
(hopefully an even smaller fraction?)
Idiots reading spam who also happen to have an embarrasingly small penis. (won't even guess here)
any idea how the bogus penis enlargment corp. and the spammers make this good business?

As it was pointed out earlier javascript!=java, so if we disregard applets then java does certainly not need any extra software on the client side. It's like just like php, only prettier. Actually the only thing I've seen that's prettier for web applications is... here we go: c#:)
What's interesting about the broadband infrastructure is that in Sweden your connection quality will probably be better if you live in a less densely populated area because of subsidies. In the major cities you get 26mbit DSL connection for $45/month. I'd guess about 50% of buildings have 10mbit/RJ45 for a little less (around $30-40/month).
Then you have for instance my parents who live in a single family house in a village/suburb of about 3000 residents. Recently they got their own fibre dug in(!) promising 100Mbit and even more in the future. This was of course done by the local power company owned by the state...
Only in between are you out of luck, i.e. in the less densely populated areas without a kind power company or similar that digs gigabit wires at a loss. Then you resort to assymetric dsl 128/512kbit which reaches 90% of households in Sweden at $40/month.
Lots of discussion on legal fees here. Why are Americans so convinced that a poor norwegian guy will probably be drenched in legal fees?
Perhaps Norway has one of those sane legal systems where the fact that a case is tried again does not affect the economy of the defendant, nor does the quality of the defence necessarily depend on the defendants economy...

Does this all sound crazy?
