Most of their profits are thanks to the iPod, without it they might be barely making profits right now. Their computers are admired by many but they're too expensive for a complete Apple system (mini Mac isn't a complete system), you'd not want to use an ugly monitor with a Mac.
That's not what I'd called enterprise, that's what I'd called embdedded use. Anyone can wrap the Gecko engine into something if they can program. It's much better to do this than just have some half-wit configure IE to be locked down. Much more robust and secure for starters.
Windows is fine until something in the registry gets trashed, something that the automated repair processes won't rectify. Then you're up s**t creek.
With Linux and Unix variants you'd be able to rectify this somehow editing files in/etc.
I had/etc go screwy on me one day, probably a hard disk bad block, fstab was trashed and I couldn't edit it. I went in as runlevel 1 (single user) copied everything from/etc to/etc2, fixed the bad file and renamed the two directories.
If you are around the age of 30 like me you will remember toying with 8-bit computers, not the most user friendly and easy to use computers. No gui, no mouse and often no disk drive.
But we loved those 8-bit machines, they were fresh, something new and exciting. Just like a PC will be to someone who has never owned a computer before. If you are starting out in computing now then you aren't likely to have 10 or so years of Windows experience behind you. You will approach things with an open mind. Windows users typically believe Linux is a very hard OS, it isn't, it's a lot more open and straight forward. It's just different to Windows like German is a different language to English.
Laptops are expandable and hatches reveal the slots for RAM and other optional extras like wifi modules. Why this cannot be done for a small form factor PC I don't know.
CO2 output it rising, humans create CO2 by burning up fossil fuels.
The dispute tends to be from US scientists who are rather comfortable with their indulgent lifestyle and would rather the Chinese and Indians cut back on their pollution.

If everyone's sites were compliant with standards then a browser would be simple and there would be no need to fudge anything.
IE fudges sites and this hides errors, I want to see errors in pages I develop, then I can fix them.
Depends if the settlement says stop bundling Media player or stop bundling Windows media codecs. I can't imagine them blocking codecs, they're potentially used during installation of XP, when you get that ugly animation at the first bootup of XP.
The average office user has to use what the company decides on.
But anyway, IBM shouldn't make the mistake of using their own software simply because they want to. They should choose what is right for the job. Given the lack of a Linux Lotus Notes client it seems like they have made the wrong choice for now.
It's not hard for them to put out another release without WMP. They release newer OS CDs all the time, the latest boxes of XP on the shelves have SP2 integrated.
It will be interesting to see how many people choose to install WMP.
Once again it's the poorer member states in the EU who have to stand in the way of globalisation and giant companies trying to punish the smaller companies.
I really do wonder about the EU commission, undemocratically elected and accusations of corruption are nothing new (the whole commission resigned a few years back).
This is the first mention of SCO I've seen this year, I guess the whole thing is approaching failure for SCO. The fact that it's not seen as newsworthy for the most part demonstrates this.
Bye bye SCO is all I can say, they could have made a packet selling a decent enterprise Linux but they preferred the easy route to raising share price.
A bit of a chicken and egg situation. I've not seen Safari but I hope it gives plenty of kudos to the KDE team in its about screen.
Good to see Apple recognise good compact code when they see it. Firefox is on the way to being more lean and mean, Minimo will help them as it code will need some work to make it more compact to run on less memory endowed devices.
Didn't say they were stealing their product, just stealing the buzz and limelight. Firefox is a popular browser and AOL were always talking about how they would stop using IE as their browser engine and use Mozilla.
Well the switch never happened and that deprived Mozilla of some valueable testing and customer base. AOL are now riding on the recent popularity and migration towards Firefox.
It should be part of your ISPs AUP that you take precautions to prevent your computer becoming infected. In fact I would suggest that it be made possible that you aren't allowed a net account unless you pay for anti-virus software as part of the signup process (if using Windows).
Everyone I know who is using Windows is getting sick of all the viruses and junk, It tires me to hear about it and I'm now at the stage where I say "put up with it or let me install Linux". At some point the pain level will grow such that they will want to try Linux.

P4 laptops are fat!!!
Centrino is lower clocked and performs well, a much better processor for most people.

Many Unix systems are being migrated to either Windows or Linux. This is why both Linux and Windows sales can rise even though they're competitors.

Underneath and out of sight. it's simple when you mount the sockets upside down.

But largely natural temp variations are ok, it's when man creates the changes that we have to worry.

1. Sun grants access to patents
2. People use patents
3. Sun revokes access to patents and sues people
4. Profit!!!

The lack of accountability, if they misuse their power then the voting public doesn't have the power to oust them at the next round of elections.
It's a lot more than that now.
The EU member states are subject to EU laws, there's economic union thanks to the Euro. This also dictates taxes and monetary policy.
Once again it's the poorer member states in the EU who have to stand in the way of globalisation and giant companies trying to punish the smaller companies.

I personally wouldn't give AOL that much credit, after all they had the chance to use Netscape/Mozilla in their product but never did IIRC.
Didn't say they were stealing their product, just stealing the buzz and limelight. Firefox is a popular browser and AOL were always talking about how they would stop using IE as their browser engine and use Mozilla.

They've just rebranded and repackaged firefox, why bother? it's stealing their thunder to help promote AOL.
Anyone can tweak and rebadge an open source project, sure they're not breaking the GPL. But you have to ask yourself why would they do it?
It's not their fault, Apple won't license their tech to anyone else. It's not in their interests to do so.
