  1. What about the Asian guy? on Microsoft Poland Photoshops Black Guy To White One · · Score: 4, Insightful

If they Photoshopped in a white guy over the black guy, what about the Asian guy? I mean, how likely are you to see a Korean guy walking the streets of Poland? ( Or maybe I just don't know the streets of Poland).

  2. How hard can it be? on More E-voting Problems in California · · Score: 1

I want to know who the programmers are in each of these e-voting "scandals". How are is it to program a computer to count?

  3. Slidell, LA DMV on Windows Virus Takes Out Gov't Agencies in MD, PA · · Score: 1

I heard recently from my 17 year old friend of mine here in Slidell, LA (Outside New Orleans) that the local DMV was "taken out" by the recent Msblaster worm. It took a few hours for him to get his new drivers License.

  4. Laptop for Mobile, Desktop for the Dorm on What Kind Of Computer To Bring To College? · · Score: 1

Ideally it would be nice to have a small Wi-fi notebook to carry around campus. HOWEVER... PCs are often available almost anywhere on a college campus (unless your campus has a long wait line). I'm a senior in college currently, and I've enjoyed having my TV-Card installed in my custom built PC throughout my college years. With that and with a pretty good Soundcard/Speaker set, a student can eliminate the space problem of an often cramped dorm room with this consolidation of the TV,VCR, Stereo, and PC.

  5. Have them Build Computers on Ideas for High School Computer Projects? · · Score: 1

Have the students build and upgrade the computers for the school rather than buying new ones.. It'll save you a buddle in funds.

  6. I've already seen problems... on Apocalypse Not · · Score: 1

I've already seen problems. My mother's notebook computer reset to 1900 in the BIOS and 1980 in Windows 95. Meanwhile at work, an NT Machine with an external Parallel ZIP drive now crashes when the ZIP drive is connected... guess I'll need to download the latest drivers for it.

What was the webpage address... something like
http://packetstorm.harvard.edu/jp/ ... How do you just so happen to run across a website address like that. Personally, if it did exist, I think it was planted. This is all a setup, Packetstorm was framed.

  9. Cheaper Copy of "Triumph" on Pirates of Silicon Valley · · Score: 1

Let's face it, "Pirates of Silicon Valley" was way too short. I taped it last night, editing out the commercials as it was showing, and my VCR displayed only 1 hour and 32 minutes of real footage! To order of copy of (the nearly 3 hour) Triumph of the Nerds from Blockbuster video for $42.49 (slighly cheaper than PBS's listing of $49.95), click here.

  10. I knew it from the beginning... on DIVX is dead · · Score: 1

Circut City, be honest with yourself.

The people buying DVD players at this point in time are movie enthusiasts. These are people who care about Widescreen, video quaility, trailers, sound quaility, and behind the scenes information.
From what I've heard, Divx didn't offer any of that.

So let's go through the list right quick:
    1. They made a format that was not compatible with DVD-ROMs or exisiting DVD players.
    2. They charged a fee everytime you wanted to watch the movie (let's face it, would you rather buy a $20 DVD movie to keep, or ay $5 for one you'll watch maybe twice ... at least video tape rentals are around $3 each)
    3. The features everyone came to love about DVD (as listed above) are just not there.

Jeez, Circut City, What did you expect?

And on the idea of never returning the Divx disc:
I've got a stack of over 100 AOL CD-ROMs already (which I'm about to mail back to AOL with a nice little note). If I would overwrite them I could... it seems like such a waste.

    Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

However, I might take advantage of their rebate offers for the DVD Players... if they're in VCR price range, this could be a little something for the living room. I'm still investing in a "good" DVD-ROM for my computer... DVD-ROMs are the only DVD players fast enough run on HDTVs.
