For all of us trying to get by without using MS Windows, OSX would be a great alternative. I use FreeBSD but would jump at the chance to use OSX (okay, mainly because of the slick interface, but it is still kinda cool).
I do see the point about just because it's X86 doesn't mean it will run on your computer. For example, I've downloaded the latest incarnation of Darwin, and it will not boot on any of my systems, so that doesn't leave me with much hope.
I think if it does exist it is only a matter of time before it gets leaked. Look how quick Windows XP was put out on the p2p networks? We'll see.
