A somewhat less cynical view is that Facebook is to your social interactions what a bank is to your money. You let Facebook manage your interaction data. The advantage for you is that sharing is easier and the data is more secure than it is in your own safe. In return, they get to use your interaction data for their own gain.

Now the banking sector has been heavily regulated by the government to restrict their use of their customers' money to what the community considers ethical. Probably things will have to go wrong before it goes the same way for internet social networks.

Unions are the employment equivalent of feminism; it was a good thing until women got rights. Now it's just sexism. We need humanism rather than feminism, and we need labor laws for all people rather than Union protection for a few.

But still, when your rights according to labor law are violated, who is going to defend you? And do you understand all of labor law actually?

Having unions that can help you in a conflict with your employer is very useful, even when worker rights have been established and the time of activism is over.

I find it interesting to note that salt distinguishes truly cold countries from moderately cold ones. In the truly cold countries they just live with ice and snow on the roads, and make the surface a bit rougher by spraying sand on it.

The open door metaphor may be a classic, but it appears that it just doesn't work for the internet. When I type 'www.johnswebsite.com' into my browser and press enter, can I now get sued by John because I accessed his server without permission from him? On the internet, not attempting to secure a resource is like saying it's public. Please keep it that way, or we're in for some more crazy lawsuits.
