This is something that doesn't seemed to be addressed enough. Yes, we can start and learn from a "simplified" interface, but as our experience grows with the system, shouldn't the interface as well.
The ideal setup is to have a simplified interface for "newbies" and allow that interface to expand in power (look-and-feel) as well as the user gets more accustomed to it.
Windows has the concept for the beginners, but environments like GNOME, with the ability to change readily, can make the experienced use much more comfortable.
IMHO, one of the more harmful points of the whole mess has been overlooked. In the "demands" section of the letter that is being sent, item 3 demands "advise us of the name and physical address of the person operating this site;"
Not, that the whole thing isn't damaging to individual privacy, but this line is just scary.
Hmm, guess they're going to be sending out hit squads to the homes next.
