If i'm not mistaken, changing the TTL of a host in a domain other than the root or TL/ccTL Domains should not make any difference to the number of queries to the Root servers or for that matter the TLD or ccTLD servers. The only servers that should notice any increase in traffic is the actual servers hosting the domain.
I've never had any problems burning at 32x on my P200 under Debian linux.
I just had to make sure that DMA was enabled on both the source and destination device.

to continue on this line of thought wouldn't 401 Authorization Required be a little more appropriate
