in the second you've made the choice to look at advertising in search of products and services.
If you're looking for products and services aren't you by definition looking for advertisements?
From Wikipedia:
"Generally speaking, advertising is the paid promotion of goods, services, companies and ideas by an identified sponsor."
Now, where I agree with you is that it's a PITA to have your listings broken up by big blocks of advertising that may or may not be pertinent to the service/product you're looking for in the yellow pages. That sucks.
This may have been off-topic, but a troll? GoMMiX has a point.
My hope is that MS can keep from making the movie suck in the same way they kept out of Bungie's way and kept from ruining the games. The fact that PJ is involved in encouraging. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed...
and by the time mid-2007 rolls around, they'll be STUCK that way!
Who knows? Last time I checked, MS was sitting on a cubic blortload of cash, and it's already been documented (try Google) that they regularly shuttle their money around to ventures that are losing money so that they ALWAYS turn a profit in their quarterly reports. Don't take them at face value.
For an admittedly "better" operating system, Apple sure gives you a good deal, eh?
Note: I neglected to mention XP Home on purpose; the lack of configurability with regards to disabling default services with known security vulnerabilities (Messenger, UPnP, etc.) make it unadvisable as a real consumer OS.
Time to get pedantic: Your car isn't maintaining position. It's still located on the outer surface of a spheroid planet that is both rotating about its axis and revolving around its star. Hence your car is constantly changing position in the universal 3d coordinate grid.
I'd be interested in seeing what kind of energy expenditure would be required to maintain TRUE position, though.
is not a typical movie. Most movies are 90-120 mins, which is well within the capabilities of the PowerBook. Heat, on the other hand, is a whopping 3 hours long!
Your first problem is that, with a PowerMac 8600/300, you're likely running OS 8.x or 9.x. These operating systems were, indeed, far inferior to WinNT in that they did not multitask well (yes, you could have multiple programs open at a time, but they wouldn't share CPU time) and had rather simplistic memory management. Mind you, Windows isn't much better in the memory management category, but it's no surprise that your PPro outran your PowerMac 8600 on similar tasks. If you were to run, say, Linux on the same CPU, it would likely keep pace or even outpace your PPro/WinNT setup.
In addition, OS X (which your PowerMac will not likely run without a G3/4 daughtercard and quite a bit of non-Apple supported tinkering) supports preemptive multitasking like any other modern OS, and while I'm not exactly a Mac-head, I feel it's far superior to any other previos MacOS edition. You may want to stop by your local Apple Store or CompUSA (*shudder*) to try it out.
Ya gotta think about these things before bashing any particular setup, pal.
...like google.co.jp, google.ca, etc. will fill up pages of hits on a search for Google long before slashdot even makes an appearance. But it is a nice thought.
OK, so maybe I DIDN'T get first post... silly lag.
The proposal of a distributed file system to enable a virus author to download questionable (and illegal) files is a plausable one... but isn't that an awful lot of trouble to go to just to get your hands on pr0n?

...of making a virus that downloads child pr0n onto a remote computer? I thought virii were created to wreak havoc, not frame random computer users... or am I wrong?
And furthermore, if a jury can believe this defense, what's to keep all the imminent RIAA and MPAA suits from being defused by the same argument?
FIRST POST! WOO!!
Meh. Disregard the above. I completely misread the parent. That's what I get for posting on /. at 5:30 AM.
In space, no one can hear you rocking out...

I've found that a lot of people complain about the price they paid for their Apple hardware when confronted with software problems...
Yes, Apple hardware is expensive. However, OS X 10.3 (latest version) is MUCH cheaper per license than Windows XP.
Windows XP Pro (Upgrade): $189.99
Windows XP Pro (Full): $279.99
Mac OS X 10.3 (Full): $129.00

Of course, that's not an F-22, but a F-35 JSF (Joint Strike Fighter) You're right, though. It's still not an aerial SUV. This is.

Umm... the Chateau fight-scene music was done by Rob Dougan. And on short notice, too.
