It is certainly an issue -- now, and don't mistake this for flamebait, but look at the situation realistically. Does ageism exist? Yes. Does reverse ageism exist? Yes. Will we ever be able to do away with it? No. On the upside, we all start out young and, unless we're met with an unfortunate accident, we all eventually grow old.
It is the other -isms, namely racism and sexism, which have graver implications on society than does ageism.
Only if they first discover and activate the gene responsible for 'good' (versus evil) behavior can such 'human engineering' be allowed.
Otherwise, the consequences to me are quite obvious and horrid. In our world, we are struggling to narrow the gap between those in poverty to those that are prodigiously wealthy. By offering something that will almost exclusively be catered to the already wealthy and powerful, we would ensure that the gap only widens faster.
