  1. Re:Not Just Lasers on Homing In On Laser Weapons · · Score: 0

The directed energy weapons described are of the emp variety. The US purchased several explosive emp devices from the Russians. These devices work by setting up a large electrical field, than using explosives this field is collapsed ramping up the charge till at the end of the device the energy is released. This pulse is fast and powerful frying any non-shielded electrical device. Nuclear weapons also produce this effect although on a much larger scale. There is talk that the US has another variety of this weapon using superconductors, however no information is currently available to my knowledge describing how this type of weapon is designed.

  2. Re:Nice use of our tax dollars on Homing In On Laser Weapons · · Score: 0

One has to look at what that 9.5 million dollars a day is being spent on. Since the late 1970's the humint (Human Intelligence) was scaled back and new rules were put in place that dictated what type of assets, human that is could be used. No assets with questionable credentials were allowed, even though these exact people are the ones able to get the best information on groups such as Al-queda. Our reliance on sigint and satellite imagery only allowed us to see large areas of interest, ie camps, bases and such. We had no information about what activities were actually taking place in these camps. So while 9.5 million a day is alot,it is spent in the wrong areas, I would accept an increase if a larger proportion went to humint source development and the recruitment and training of field case officers.

While I must say in my own defense that I was not initially trolling just couldn't resist a little southpark humor. I however find it funny that economy that is 8 trillion dollars in yearly business can be sidetrack by one man, well at least that is what you stated. Ladies and gentlemen the script has flipped, nothing is the way it used to be, economies around the world are hurting. The japanese have had a decade long recession and still there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Corporations kept shoddy books, people defrauded the public. They will pay until thge American people get bored with it on the nightly news. Maybe some good will come out of this, cleaner books, more transparency. To end, before you try and judge a man who is directly responsible for the wellfare of 280 million people, think about that. We are all on this rock together just a littler understanding would be good

Oh and all those restated earnings would have never happened. For the southpark underpants gnomes were the genious behind all of those business models. 7. Morphing wing technology tested before on Air Force to Test Aeroelastic Wings · · Score: 3, Informative

I remember a few years ago seeing in Janes Defense Weekly and other publications about a F-111 testbed vehicle in which the forward edge was replaced with similar techology. While this experiment did not include the entire wing the technologies developed were a definite precursor to the technology presented in the artical. If anyone else remebers this plane please reply, it is possible I have the aircraft type wrong. In an end note I have to say very cool reapplication of sound technology. Who owns the right to the Wright Brothers IP, I see a juicy lawsuit coming. He He He
