  1. Re:And all I can say is good riddance on MandrakeSoft Files for Bankruptcy Protection · · Score: 1

I think that retarded is harsh. I understand that everything doesn't necessarily work the best, but I applaude their efforts. I paid for copies of both Red Hat and Mandrake because I wanted to help their businesses. If it weren't for these 2 companies, I would probably still be using windows or possibly Mac. It is companies like this that bring Linux to the common user like myself. They made it easier for me to install and learn, as they would for other new users. To be happy that they are under financial difficulties is essentially a support for M$'s monopolistic hold on the OS market. I would happily spend some of my hard earned cash on this company again to help them in their fight against M$.

In "The Anatomy of a Large Scale Hyptertextual Web Search Engine", the creators of google explain in detail how the pageRank system works. This is not a secret at all, just search for this paper on Google.

  3. different kind of privacy on Lessig On Bounties For Spamhunters · · Score: 1

I don't think that this is about their right to privacy; instead, this is our right to have a private email accout. I know from personal experience that I have email accounts that are listed only on my resume online and I don't give them out to anyone. When my account gets spammed all of a sudden, it is an invasion of my privacy. I want to have a private email address for a specific purpose, but some spammer and his mailbot that collects random email addresses can find these things. This is an invasion of my privacy. I don't give my resume to just anyone and I don't think that I should have to take it offline, but this is unacceptible. They are invading my privacy. I can understand telephone calls because at least I can make them take my name off of the list. In the case of the spammer, I don't know who they are, or how to make them stop sending things to me without being inconvenienced by creating a new email address. This is totally an invasion of my privacy, not theirs. Bounty Hunt Away in my book, cause the spammers don't know what the right to privacy is in the first place -- or they just don't care.

  4. unique ID for each machine on DRM: How To Boil A Frog · · Score: 1

I wonder if Microsoft will detect all of their software that I pirated when they send a unique ID. I guess I will never find out since I don't plan to use this new crap

  5. Television on Directors Counter-Sue Movie Bowdlerizing Company · · Score: 1

Has anyone else ever watched TV? They edit the movies for content EVERY DAY. I don't see them getting sued over it. They pay to show the movie on their station and can edit it as they see fit. Anyone who thinks it is any different for this company is just siding with Big Business. Too bad Blockbuster and Hollywood Video don't get into this cause that could really turn the tables. I am all for allowing this company to edit movies for content cause USA and TNT do it every day and hollywood still allows them to show the movies.
