    The single biggest predictor of a child going to college or not is their parents income. There are lots of things like that.

    The other upside to this is to pay off your student debt and then file bankruptcy. Surely this debt is dischargeable unlike student loans.

    And electricity comes from magic?

    Around here there is a good bit of coal and natural gas power plants. So not getting around CO2.

    I wish I could get some district heat from a nuke plant, that would be how to win the NIMBYs over.

    I never said think of the children.
    I was pointing out you are not paying for the externalities of the power you want to waste.

    Fine, assume it is any human that is paying for your power. You are socializing the losses and privatizing the profits.

    The lower classes are going to be hurt by a high power bill more than anyone, they should have already converted to some form of more efficient lighting. The truly poor I know get CFLs in their public/section 8 housing.

    Without any adoption the tech will never advance.

    $4/gallon is still very cheap for gas, last time I was in Europe I paid over $10/gallon.

    On top of which dirty tech is often cheap due to externalities. Since you don't pay for the cancer the kids down the street from the coal plant get your light bulbs are very cheap for you and expensive for them.

    Why in the hell would you want electric heat? That shit is expensive. I will stick with my LED lights and gas heater.

    Not normally.
    Usually as part of a mortgage you sign a contract stating you will not do anything to decrease its value. Most lenders will simply not approve a mortgage without such a contract.

    Being that thyroid cancer is highly treatable, I would say the loss of property is worse.

    The worst case of alternatives is relevant in that it can be useful to compare them to establish what options have such bad worst cases they are not worth risking.

    Assuming he is not on the plant site that is exactly what would happen. People in the surrounding areas would be relocated.

    Of course you could go look at what happens when a coal slurry pond breaks.

    Yeah, I am so anti-AMD that my current desktop is a 955 Black.

    AMD video cards have both bad closed and open source drivers. If no one can make a good driver for the hardware, that hints at other problems.

    I suggest someone spread around the idea that coal power plants endager the health those nearby. A bonus is that this might actually be true.

    Wireless chips are not that complex.

    AMD can't even make their own decent driver, not even the closed one, maybe the hardware just sucks.

    Their video drivers suck. Their linux drivers are a total joke. So here I will play using my AMD CPU and NVIDIA card.

    You have to provide lots of parts at low cost and they will surely write in a lower price for each continued year of the console. That means you are tying up fab time on something is on an outdated process a few years down the road.

    On the other hand AMD had to do this, they need the money so any margin is likely acceptable.
