First off, all of the games I've mentioned I have played and liked, unless otherwise noted. The ones that are coming out look promising, as I haven't played them yet, but you really only have the graphics to judge them on until you get to play them. It's the same with everything else.
I don't mind it's lack of titles. It's not even year old. NO console has begun it's freshmen year with thousands of titles. Unless you count backwards compatibility, but you've got to start somewhere. PSX did.
It's a fact of console life that the majority of titles for any given system will be sub-par. Like I said, it comes with the territory. Just look at the thousands of titles for the PSX, and then find good ones within that. Although you have a higher chance of finding more great titles in a bigger library, so do the chances of finding a LOT more bad ones. ALL consoles suffer from this, it's just the programmers trying to release games to make a quick buck. The problem I have is everyone on this thread singling out the problems of the Xbox as though it's the only one that it happens to.
The controller, while it does take time to get used to it, is still a great controller. I do still love the psx controllers, as I have bein using them for years, and it's just second nature now. But there is an adapter for psx controllers if you just CAN'T play on an (apparantly) 20 lbs. controller. Let's not overlook the S series controller either. IMO it's the best one I've ever used. I reccomend getting these instead of the original, as they tend to have the best button and joystick feel.
I have owned playstations before, and I liked them. Some of my favorite games are on the PSX. This coming from an N64 fanboy too. But then I realized that it's not the console, it's the games. I'm just trying to show some people that it doesn't matter what console it's one, the games are the ones that keep you coming.
Oh man, I know my games, but posting isn't my forte':)
Third time's a charm:
All this blind hatred toward a freakin software maker for what? NEWSFLASH: The majority of successful corparations didn't get to where they were by being nice and honest. It's business, the point is to be successful. I know it sucks, but it's true.
Now, about these asinine posts about how the xbox doesn't have any games worth playing. I get the feeling that most of these posters haven't even played an xbox game more than ten minutes, if at all. And it looks as though most of the actual Xbox owners (like myself) have givin up trying to defend it in such a blatantly biased community, and passed it up.
I own an Xbox, and there a many games that are great for it besides Halo. Halo isn't even my favorite. I do agree that FPS's on a console tend to suck, but they've done an incredible job of making it very playable. That big ugly controller everyone keeps referring to happens to be the best suited to play FPS games (and yes, I play CS religously, and it still doesn't compare to the control, but it's a huge leap foward from any other FPS on a console period.)
Another great game that deserves an honorable mention is Rallisport Challenge, THE best racing game ever produced (and I hate racing games). Awesome graphics and the best control of any one I've played. I emplore (?) you to check this game out, you won't be dissappointed.
More great games: SSX Tricky (a port, but it doesn't mean it's not fun) DOA3 (a nice time killer) Dead to Rights (Almost got it beat) Hunter: The Reckoning (Tons better when you're playing with 3 friends) HALO (oldie but goodie Outlaw Golf (All around fun game) Robotech (released on all systems, but at least it looks better:) and those are just the ones I know about, I haven't played them all.
There are a lot of good looking games coming out for it as well, beside the ones mentioned in this article. Duality, Crimson Skies, Whacked, Kung Fu...er.something or other, Mechwarrior, Blinx, and so on. (and just to clarify, Steel Battalion is not $250, it's the option controller that costs so much. A fully functional replica of the cockpit of a mech isn't a cheap thing to make. It can be played with a regular controller, it's most available for the die hard mech fans.
I'm not going to say that every game on the Xbox is golden, it does have it's share of crap titles, but it goes with the console territory. I believe it's doing a great job considering it's MS's first console, and it's not even a year old. Someone name some PS2 titles that were not franchises that came out on it within a year. Notwithstanding that they already have experience in making consoles.
I know this post isn't going to change everyone's mind about the Xbox, just try to tone the childish, mindless bashing of something just because it's made by an evil corporation (as opposed to a good corporation). It's a game console, not a murderer. Enjoy the games coming out on it, enjoy the competition it's creating. Every thing has it's good points and bad,
I mean, last time I checked, you played the games, not the console.
(p.s. people stopped laughing at the BSOD on the Xbox bit about a year before it was out. Talk about beating a dead horse.)
Thanks for reading, and try to be a bit more open minded about these things and enjoy them for once.
Not noticing the drop down menu when you submit your fist post to slashdot:)
Here's a more readable format if anyone actually wants to read it:
