Internet access by satellite already exists (at least here in Sweden). It only uses the satellite for incomming data (with normal modem for outgoing). Since the acknowledge packets in tcp has to be sent by phone the speed with tcp is only 200-400 kbps whereas udp gets a speed of 500-800 kbps. More info here. oh... you don't read swedish...?:)
