    Of course for unimportant apps, like say the Finder, they use Carbon.

    If you don't know anything about REALbasic, then you shouldn't steer people away from it. Many of its most ardent fans are hardcode programmers who like being productive. Many people use REALbasic to make large, complex, powerful apps.
