  1. The real question is the license, not the OS.. on FreeBSD 5.0 RC3 Now Ready · · Score: -1, Troll

    BSD licensing means releasing your sourcecode into slavery - does anyone think M$ gives a fuck about copyrights, even if they are only asked to >mention it? Like the BSD license asks to do?
    The GPL, on the other hand, at least tries to protect the sourcecode it is applied to and has a strong (because large) community behind it.

    Use whatever (free as in speech) OS you want, folks, but _please_ don't put your sourcecode under the BSD license!

    To be honest, I used to use vim (it comes with many GNU/Linux distributions as a standard) and never really liked it - it's really just not my flavour. Some time ago I've spent some minutes trying emacs, and I was really amazed.
    It's just that vim is too big for a simple editor (better use pico or similar) and too simple for an allrounder editor.

    I just can't stop flaming ^.^

    Oh yeah VIM does not conflict with *nix standards, but since I am with GNU/Linux (GNU's _not_ UNIX) I prefer a
    • logical,
    • easy-to-learn,
    • beautiful and
    • powerful
    editor. If I just want to type some text into a file I can still use
    cat >> foo.bar << "EOF"
    and -WOW!- I don't even need to know some dumb *beeeeep* commands no one is able to remember.
    Forgot a command in EMACS? [F10] and all your problems vanish. Because EMACS has a menu (WOAH! must sound frightening for you!)

    Btw RMS rulez. And sorry for the bad English.

    Hands up!! It's been a long time I laughed so much until I read your post!
    To be honest, thinking of Balmer's shitface makes it impossible for me to bone anything. Ever checked the pics of the M$ executives at the M$ presspass site? It's a shame uglyfaces.com ran out of money, I 've once had the idea of submitting some pics from that site...

    Look: Here's the big difference. Did M$ care if you told them about w1n* freezing anytime using IE? No.

    BTW get a real OS;)

    Yeah maybe but IMO he is totally right. It's gettin' more and more difficult bearing the anger against M$ without saying REALLY bad things..

    Take this exerpt from the post-LFS (LinuxFromScratch) mozilla build howto:

    <WARNING>
    According to the financial institutions, the following hack makes your browser insecure. IMO, it is no more insecure than using MS-IIS (along with its security history) as the server for financial sites;) You have been warned. Many sites use an MS-IE specific tag (autocomplete=off) to prevent autocomplete from working in some forms. This tag is now supported in mozilla to appease the financial institutions. As per the requirements of the financial institutions, they will not even accept a solution where this a preference option. My opinion is that it should be in the hands of the user. To enable autocomplete to bypass this restriction, we need to make a slight modification in the code. Note that this modification is also available as a patch.
    </WARNING>

    <HACK>
    Open the file $MOZ_SRC/extensions/wallet/src/wallet.cpp and search for the line
    #define WALLET_DONT_CACHE_ALL_PASSWORDS
    and delete or comment out the line.

    Which 'imitation'? StarOffice? OpenOffice? AbiWord?
    I would like to know in how far which programs are just pale imitations of M$Office, since nothing much bad could be said about OpenOffice, for example. The UI is pretty much intuitive and reading/writing .doc , .ppt etc. extension files from all versions works with only few flaws in most cases, sometimes even perfectly.
