not too sure on that.. the way things are sounding, AMD's hammer may very well be released as a 32/64 bit processor to begin with. not only that, but intel are considering ONLY releasing 64bit processors in the next year or so. AMD however is due to release the hammer in the first or second quarter of next year (2oo3). This would most likely beat IBAppleM's 64 bit cpu to the market. So where's the buzz in the 64 bit thing? AMD's hammer will start at OVER 2ghz, so I'd be interested to see what sort of difference in performance there'd be. Considering the Hammer core would undoubtedly be moved to the HammerMP line also, would this remove the 'uberness' of the IBAppleM's 64bit 1.8ghz processor altogether?
If I have anything wrong, don't criticize me, for I am indeed just a young lamer who reads Tom's Hardware Guide, and can only really give an example from what I have already read. It just seems kind of 'too little too late' in regards to the Apple. they're trying to make a come-back in a market where they're already far behind. Don't get me wrong, I think the G4 is an awesomely powerful chip, but what marketing value will they be able to push to their potential buyers, when AMD will already have a far faster chip out, and Intel will be brewing one?
a thought for the day, from the cow.
