This is certainly a concern, since many people are already contributing their time and effort into important tasks, such as software development, and/or networking hardware/insfrastructure in developing countries. It only seems right to allow persons the ability to receive the same financial benefits for their services, as other persons do for their overpriced proprietary products. At any rate, about a year ago I founded a non-profit organization (World Uniting, Inc.) for the sole purpose of providing avenues (appropriate tax compensation) for individuals to participate in international/domestic development as volunteers. The difficulty with working with government supporting/development agencies is the alphabet soup of names and red-tape needed to accomplish anything. (I am a true believer in the reality of bottom-up effectiveness.)
So...all this to say...GO FOR IT!!! Let's work to bring the same opportunities to all people!
