It's not just the desktop and Office what makes MS the industry standard. For large corporations it is equally appealing that using policies it is possible to control every aspects of your workstations, servers, from installation to additional software roll-outs to desktop settings, from the smallest organizational units to the enterprize level.
It's not only a breach of trust - it is THEFT of personal/company/government data.
