  1. MCS on Computer Science vs. Computer Engineering? · · Score: 1

Don't do either. Do like I did and get a specialised degree at a school with a 100% placement rate. Right now I'm attending UW Whitewater in Wisconsin, getting my degree in Management Computer Systems (MCS). I just so happen to be getting that degree with a business emphasis, but you could go the more scientific route (more math) as well. Whitewater has been named the top 4-year computing program 6 times by the Association for Information Technology Professionals (AITP), and just redid their curriculum. Forget the other two unless you want to be stuck in a cubicle or working under a computer guy with more seniority. This degree will give you the computer and business skills to not only be the best for the job, but a good leader.

  2. Decent but lacking on End Of Fox Animation · · Score: 2

Having grown up on Don Bluth films, as well as having played hours of Dragon's Lair and Space Ace on my Amiga and SegaCD, I was at TitanAE opening weekend. Visually, the movie has some beautiful CG work, but then again, what doesn't nowadays? Some of the most stupid commercials on television are utlising the same technology Titan used and yielding better results. So, what set this film apart from anything else?

    Absolutely nothing.

The characters were typical Don Bluth-style characters, with generic features and shallow personalities. The premise was interesting, but hardly original, and in the end you can't help but ask yourself "where was the climax?" The voice actors weren't particularly great (I mean, c'mon, Bill Pullman?) and when they create an entire planet in the same time it takes for Slashdot to load, you're just like "yeah...sure".

Being a huge fan of anime across the board, whether it be Japanese, Disney, or what not, I tend to give shows and movies a little slack. TitanAE was acceptable in that respect, but no less disappointing. At least a mediocre Manga-style anime is generally geared toward adults. They tried to play to both audiences with this movie, and they didn't succeed. They should've picked one or the other.

  3. What garbage on MacOS In A World w/ 2 Microsofts · · Score: 1

Typical Apple-user delusions. Nice to know that, regardless of the break-up decision, some things will just never change. I loved how he used this little tale of fantasy as a way of bashing the Windows OS, because we all know that OS X is going to be foolproof and not have any problems, just like the Macs now which, as many a user will tell you, don't ever crash.

"Although Windows, Inc. makes Office available for Linux, the lack of a first-class unified graphical interface severely hobbles that platform for the majority of would-be users."

Just one question. If Windows Inc produces solely the operating system, and Microsoft handles the apps, then how would Windows Inc release Office for Linux? Tsk, tsk. How inconsistant.

  4. Suggestions on Essential Anime · · Score: 1

Well, you already listed the top of mine, "Lain", so I guess that is struck. Two that I enjoy that I know you can get are "Project A-KO" and "Vampire Hunter D". Others that I like but have no idea where you'll find them (they used to show them on the Sci-Fi Channel but not recently) are "Lens" and "Robot Carnival".

"Green Legend Ran" isn't too bad either.

  5. Arrogance Produces Profit Losing Entity (APPLE) on New Mice from Apple - Without Buttons? · · Score: 1

What is up with this? First they have only one mouse button, and now they're doing away with buttons completely. I don't know what Apple is thinking. They create this one-piece, highly UN-upgradable computer that comes complete with no floppy drive and no comperable replacement. Then they release this gay little mouse that throws the entire concept of ergonomics out the window. Now they're going to make a mouse that requires you to pet it like a hamster.

With all these ridiculous moves, I kind of miss all the Mac-folk who used to live 'round here that moved away. Love to hear what they have to say about this. :)

Just because they say something in their contract doesn't mean that it will hold any legal ground, even with the UCITA in place. Check out www.ucitaonline.com before you start talking out of your asses. If the rules outlined by the contract contradict with another law then, depending on the law, it could be preempted. This is almost given with issues concerning your rights (like free speech).

  7. Re:Are you serious? on Review: "Scream 3" · · Score: 1

I'll give you Scream 1, but Scream 2 was just plain awful. Then again, most of Kevin Williamson's movies are awful. He had one brief moment of talent, and then went back to being the crappy writer he always was.

Haven't gotten a chance to see Scream 3 yet, and I'm not even sure I want to (regardless of this review). After the let down of the 2nd one, I'm sort of not in the mood to watch the "same" movie over again, but this time with everyone talking about trilogies.

If that was to be representative of "Big Brother", then what the hell was Jobs' position in that excellent scene?

Isn't world domination that exact same thing we're criticising Apple and Microsoft for? We accuse each other of supporting "Big Brother", but then the Linux team goes out and starts spouting about world domination. Hmmm...that's really interesting. Here I thought the whole idea of a free OS and open-source was so that we could break free of gluttons with such aspirations and control.

GUI's were evil 10 years ago? Really, I did not know that. Especially with Windows already being out and many DOS-based programs using GUIs of their own. You know, for a guy who obviously advocates Macs, I find it funny that you would dare call anyone else "SHEEP". Apple is notorious for eat this and like it. Closed off architecture, closed off operating system. They hound Microsoft about open-source? Geez! At least I have more of a choice in what goes into my computer.

Besides, back in the 3.1 days, I never went into Windows if I could help it. Practically everything I did was in DOS. I have '98 on here now, and I like it a lot better. Is it because I'm a SHEEP. No, it's because it has been improved. I also use Linux though, cos in all actuallity, I still love my CLI.

"Are you a pirate?" "Yes, I'm a pirate!"

"Think Different". More like "Think Like Apple".

Oh, and do you consider it biased to just not
talk about the other platform? I'd like to see a Mac Mag try that approach (like most respectable PC mags do).

  14. Re:Apple invented important elements on Pirates of Silicon Valley · · Score: 1

Multiplan wasn't developed for the Mac first. In fact, it was already selling and competing against VisiCalc years before the Macintosh came out. In October of 1983, Gates and a bunch of his top guys met at the Red Lion Inn near Bellevue because their IBM-based Multiplan and their competitor VisiCalc were both getting run over by Lotus 1-2-3. It was then they decided they needed to develop a spreadsheet program that featured a GUI (which was the birth of Excel).

At first they were going to release it for the PC, since at Comdex of 1982 they had announced that they were developing "Interface Manager" (which was later renamed "Windows"). However they switched to Macintosh bandwagon because, as Jeff Raikes said, "We bet on the Macintosh, hoping Windows would come in sooner rather than later".

Yeah, well to quote Steve Jobs:

"When was the last time you got laid?"

I mean, give me a break. Don't let your advocacy of a specific platform cloud real events. Jobs is known for being a tyrant. Jobs ran around and yelled and screamed and played favourites with the Mac-team. I have read a lot on the history of MS and Apple, and they portrayed the relationship between Gates and Jobs relatively well. Jobs would scream at Gates, and he would keep absolutely cool. And what he did to that girl who he docked up? Shame shame.
