  2. DOOM on What Was Your First Gaming Experience? · · Score: 1

I was at University, walking around the computer lab looking for somewhere to sit down and do some work. These guys were playing DOOM on the computers. Enthralled, I sat down at a warm seat just vacated by one and proceeded to get motion sickness. It was great, I couldn't stop! The 3D interface was amazing!

My homework never got done but I did discover something great and of course its all history after that.

  3. Advantages of Upgrading from XP to Ubuntu on The Advantages of Upgrading From Vista To XP · · Score: 1

I can't be asked -- I've seen this saga in too many forms. Haven't we all? Perhaps I've gone over the edge (kinda like the guy who wrote the article) -- no matter -- this saga has gone on far too long in too many variations. Windows is crapola! We all know it.

If you're wondering about it or chatting about -- Stop it! Install some variant of Linux and get on with whatever you need to get on with -- except for playing computer games of course.

I'm at peace with Ubuntu >. Stories like this make my peace even more peaceful -- especially when I"m not playing games -- otherwise I'll duel boot.

  4. Bureaucracy at its worst on Microsoft's 'Men in Black' Kill Florida Open Standards Legislation · · Score: 2, Insightful

This is another Microsoft (help I'm bleeding money) tactic. Recently Microsoft proclaimed it will end support for XP on January 31st 2008; this, a quick decisive 'squeeze as much blood out of the turnip before the turnip dries up' tactic which will keep money streaming in for Microsoft a little while longer: people will run out and buy whatever they need to keep on Microsoft-ing away.

Taken into consideration with this article on Florida bureaucracy out-bureaucracy-afied by Microsoft henchman.

And what of the empires (that'd be Microsoft) attempts in California? What about Texas and Minnesota-- Microsoft is there too?

Are our public (synonymous with open standard) bureaucrats bureaucratic enough to represent us and what is good for America?

Politicians/Bureaucrats are blind to the monopolistic efforts carried out by Microsoft -- maybe its time we elected some 'Slash dot-ers.'

  5. Old and Future Content on New Battlestar Galactica Spin-off Series Announced · · Score: 1

This is great news for science fiction fans everywhere and if it hasn't been said the approach to Battlestar Galactica this time (comparing with the 70s) fits well with this time's (era) viewing audiences preferences; generational one might say and definitely very watch-able.

Wonder what the slant on the new Battlestar Galactica will be in 2050? and after that... That makes me wonder what Slashdot will be like in 2050 too?

Nice to hear about new and fresh connect, TV wise at least, on the horizon while old (or current) content remains entertaining.

    Cheers .t.
