Extreme Programming has little to do with computer science, so there is no reason why anyone in academia would find it all that interesting. It is, however, eXtremely pertinent to the science of software development, so those of us engineering in extreme environments, like games where the design and requirements change on a weekly basis, find its essential ideas and lexicon pretty cool.
But not as cool as Adaptive or Agile development.
