Besides, the Tivo has been made obsolete already with streamers.

    Not really.

I'm using Tivo as part of my cord cutting set up.

I have the Tivo Roamio OTA (comes with lifetime guide service) to record my local OTA channels, and I also have Tivo Minis to stream that from the main tivo to the bedrooms and office televisions.

The Tivo also has streaming built in for Netflix and Amazon, Hulu, etc...and like another poster said, it is good at searching through all of them for show or key words you want to search for.

I will say that the Tivo's interface with the Netflix and amazon prime is a bit slower than my Amazon FireTV and Roku's Iv'e played with...but the search across all of those in addition to all my local channels via antenna is great.

I did add the Amazon FireTV units to each TV too....so that I could use Playstation VUE, and for $35/mo I could get all the "cable channels" I would have missed, like all the ESPN channels during college football season, I get FX, FXX, TCM, IFC...all the news MSNBC, Fox News, CNN...etc.

But I find that this set up is really working well. I have the TIVO for searching and DVR for OTA and the VUE on Amazon FireTV which had DVR capability for all those shows I described above....

  5. I take it you were opposed to Chick-Fil-A's stance on LGB issues?

The company didn't discriminate against anyone, employees or customers, but the owner expressed his view points.

No, I have no problem with anyone expressing their viewpoints on subjects like this. Everyone is free to embrace or oppose what till recently have been very prevalent thoughts and traditional values.

  6. As a Non-American I find this fixation with guns absurd.

And as that you are a non-American, it shouldn't really matter one way or another to you, should it?

It's nice that you're interested, but you really needn't bless us with your 'superior' and more 'civilized' outlook on weapons where you live. But with all that Trump has said or promoted, I've not seen yet where he came out to promote the agenda that is against equality in matters of gender and race.

Has Thiel himself come out for these views against equality? If so, I missed that.

Trump has said a lot of stupid shit, but I've not heard him yet say he was against racial or gender equality.

  14. Serious question, not an attempt to troll. What kind of people buy these 'smart TVs' and why? For Internet? Doesn't almost everybody have a PC or tablet nowadays anyway?

Well...it almost sounds like 2 questions you have here.

    1. Why would you want smart features on a TV?

    - Well, this is often for folks that want to watch things streaming like Hulu, Netflix, etc...without having to fumble with multiple remotes and units..all in one spot.

    2. Why would you want at TV to watch smart tv content on, because everyone has a PC and/or tablet.

-Well, despite many young folks not watching traditional tv, and even I'm cutting the cord....if you have the means, it is VERY NICE to watch movies and the like on a large, high quality screen. Myself, I also have my main stereo with my large TV in the living room, so my surround sound is quite good and frankly, with my set up, I can't generally think of a good reason to go out to see a movie, I can pause it, my bar is right near by and no assholes on the phone or talking to mess with my movie. Also, I control the volume.

I now have Klipsch for a 5.1 system....and when I get to a larger abode, I'll expand for that to 7.1 or Atmos for even ceiling sound. (K-Horns in front, 15" Klipsch subwoofer, older large Klipsch center channel, and now I scored recently a great pair of older Klipsch Cornwalls for the surround speakers.

So, to go with that large sound, I like a large TV.

Much nicer to sit and enjoy things on that system rather than a tinny speaker on a tablet for a movie....

So, hope that answers what sounded like you're two questions you were asking...

I actually do see, that many kids today are waiting on average to later in life to have kids, and that is smart for most of them since they are not hitting the workforce at levels of income (relative to the times) that we did in the past.

Sure you had folks having kids younger in the past, but in the past, people seemed to "grow up" a bit faster and they mostly were working jobs where they could afford kids and a house, etc....

Times have changed and well, it is like anything.

If you cannot afford a new car...don't buy one till you can afford it. Don't have kids if you cannot afford them. And if you do have them, be prepared to sacrifice yourself in many ways for them, give things up so you can give to them.

What it seems so many people are missing here with these jobs is...

Not ALL jobs are meant to be sole source of income that you make your living from!!

Many are jobs that are there for side jobs, for extra money, not a 40 hour work week.
