  1. Re:Go for it! (but don't use TXT) on Mirror Listings Though TXT DNS Records? · · Score: 1

I agree with this statement totally. You don't want to use an unstructured field, but the idea that this is bad beacuase it's an application domain is not valid. Email has used DNS for routing for a long time, and that is most certainly an application level protocol.

The larger problem is how to model the information. DNS already supports the concept of storing geo-positional information. The problem is that the raw location isn't indicitive of the best mirror. The network topology needs to be understood and properly recorded, never mind the security implications.

Well, I'm not a heavy Mac user, I'm a Unix guy. I've always loved the Mac interface, but when it comes to the Unix interface in OS X, it always seems that you are taking a trip down to the unfinished basement. The OS X Unix is much less functional than most other Unix setups (understandably, since it's seen as more of an embedded component to the system by Apple). The case insensitive fs is just a pain.

I'm not saying that running Linux is a better solution, mostly for time/hardware support reasons. Giving up Aqua is not sensible. I just feel that while its a better Mac for having BSD, it's not a better BSD for having Mac. (How's that for confusing? :P )

They have a monopoly, but not just any. The monopoly has been granted by the Congress, and in effect by the people. It's about time Congress got off it's collective butt, emptied their pockets, and detailed some of those rights and who gets them. This is similar to software publishing. Who had the idea that you can copyright software? Why can you you copyright something that you don't actually publish? Coca-Cola doesn't patent Coke, because it's a secret.
    • I say if you don't publish you can't copyright!
    • I further decree that all artists must retain their original rights, and may not transfer them directly to any other person or persons.
    • Finally that the bald eagle will henceforth be know as "feather-challenged."
