I wish I had mod points today. Yours is the only accurate post I've read on this thread. *Especially* pointing out the monopolies-aren't-illegal thing. Not that I'm a fan of monopolies, but the fact that remains that the big badness comes when you A) gain that monopoly illegally and B) don't follow the different set of rules that exists when you ARE a monopoly.
Might Google eventually exhibit one or both of those behaviors? Probably. Is this a case of that? No.
How was it useful to Google to publish the report at all?
I don't see the point in pretending to provide information while obfuscating the most meaningful bits of it, unless it's a sales attempt to garner attention for a paid-for version of the report. Obviously, Google has concerns in the process different than what our concerns are, but again, I don't really see the point in the report without the brands.
Slashvertisment and crackpot or not, I don't know. But what bothered me about the initial post, which I haven't seen addressed, is the search for 'novel', saying 'PV had already been done.' So, is there something WRONG with PV or the other ways that have been done, or are we just chasing novel for novelty's sake?
So I don't know if it's poor posting of his intentions, or poor intentions.
For the same reason that for some reason here on/. we don't name companies that have screwed us over. Because we'd hate to inhibit their ability to screw the next guy over!
I wish I had mod points for you. Excellent post, as opposed to the arrogant post you were replying to. Kayditty doesn't get that he/she falls into the category of not knowing how much they don't know.
There were a few good points in there, but all in all I think that deep down inside The Lexus and the Olive Tree there was a clear and concise essay screaming to get out and being smothered by 200 pages of ad-hoc musings that were thrown in as filler.
Didn't you just describe nearly every book published? They wouldn't get published, and more importantly, wouldn't make the publisher money if they were all the clear and concise essays they should actually be. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying it is.
If you need a support contract for Linux, it's because you have A) incompetent system administrators or B) insufficient sys admin staff.
If you make a statement like this, it's because you have A) no experience in a real company or B) you do but are still naive as to how your company actually works.
I know this is simply a sales tactic by these companies that will remain nameless, but how do I fix the damage caused by these sales tactics?
Oh wow.. Thank GOODNESS you're protecting these poor companies using these lying tactics. I'd hate for their business to be negatively impacted as a result of them.
Well considering your knowledge of Novell's offerings is over a decade old (Bindery? are you kidding me?), it's no big surprise that you'd rather deal with Windows.
Don't try to sound informed when you're not. You don't come off as informed. You come off as stupid.
NO!! It can't be! You seem to forget, Novell is now Evil. Nevermind the fact that most of the people popping up to claim these things STILL don't really know what Hula is, and are just going off the misleading discription written in the blurb. To call it an Exchange replacement is pretty misleading, and frankly inflamatory.
Because he's kewl, you see. IT is "the man", and he stuck it to him! w00t
TUBES, dummy. Tubes.
I'm kind of scratching my head at this too. I have a dual-quad DL380 in my server room right now. Am I news?
Might Google eventually exhibit one or both of those behaviors? Probably. Is this a case of that? No.
Amazing how when you say something like this with authority and superfluousness, you almost don't smell the stench of it.
"That's the most interesting part of the article for me... they are really pushed to find any real-world reason for having 4 cores."
Excuse me? Games=real world?
Sorry, must have missed the memo.
Well, one reason would be because the OTA digital signal is better than the compressed crap sent out by sat or cable.

Tsk tsk

Except that they can be a useful way to succinctly add a relevant bit of information without diverging.
I can't imagine why you posted as Anonymous Coward...
Hell.. I AM a network administrator, and still can't afford to have a cool home network.

I hate to tell you this, but ... a "programmers aptitude test" has no relationship whatsoever to what is needed of a "PC Technician".

Seriously, people need to get informed before they get riled up.
Jim... I'm disappointed your blog is out of date!
Oh wow.. Thank GOODNESS you're protecting these poor companies using these lying tactics. I'd hate for their business to be negatively impacted as a result of them.
Well, there's a good realistic suggestion for him!
Except back in the 80's, PC meant "personal computer". Now how exactly does the IIe not fit that description? :)
