  1. Silverlight v 1.1 will not run on Power PC-Macs on Cross-Platform Microsoft · · Score: 1

Silverlight v 1.1 does not and will not run on Power PC Macs (that is 58% of our Mac-users).

This is not a cross platform product.

2 of my 3 home Macs failed to run any of the examples on silverlight.net.

  2. Because they treat me like an idiot! on Why Does Everyone Hate Microsoft? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Because they draw a line in my Word document when I try to type -------
Because they indent with bullets when I want to move the text 4 spaces to the right.
Because they make it close to impossible to have total control of a document, because suddenly, some intellisense kicks in and overrides it.
Because they encourage lazy web developers to create web content that can be viewed with Internet Exploder only.
Because when I try to save a really simple document as html, they give me a messy html with 85% absolutely unnecessary code, which I have to clean manually before I can do anything useful with it.
Because MSN for Mac can't use a webcam, urging my daughters to use a wintel PC for chats.
Because they give me Windows Media Player, a CPU-sucking mammoth, when all I need is a moth like Win-Amp (or a killer bee, like Itunes)
Because the give me big document processing monster, like Word, when all I need is a typewriter like WordPad.

But I do love Excel, and I applaud Bill Gates' spending habits.

  3. I won't hold my breath while waiting on Apple to Face iPod Clone Attack · · Score: 5, Interesting

If they want to kill the iPod, they have to kill iTunes, the iPod and MusicStore in one blow. The iPod success is not just a result of better hardware. It's the whole package, the iLife integration, the fact that it simply works without any hassle.

I organize all my music on my Mac, plug in the iPod, and whooops, shazam or whatever, it's all in my pocket without any technical fuzz.

This may not be the right crowd to voice this opinion in... But in this case I don't want umpteen technical options, and I can live with Apple as a music industry near-monopolist. As long as it works. If someone does it better, fine. Good luck. A colleague just told me that he finally could use his iPod without iTunes due to some hack. Nice! To me, that is a solution without a problem.

Techie stuff is work. Music is play!

And I'm not waiting for an iPod-wannabe (aka iPod-killer).
    I'm waiting for something new.

  4. I confess: Jodie Foster made me do it on Interview with SETI@home Director David Anderson · · Score: 2, Funny

My reason for running SETI: If I find ET, maybe, just maybe I might have a chance to meet Jodie Foster. I'm sure some math genius out there can work it the statistics (close to zero), but in a Dumb & Dumber kind of way... I still have a chance..

  5. Jackasses? In your dreams!! on Debugging Indian Computer Programmers · · Score: 1

That's odd... The jackass-types you describe, are people I only see in movies.

For some reason, almost every American I have met, both abroad and in the U.S., have been remarkably friendly, polite, welcoming and well mannered.

Of course you have your share of idiots over there, but they don't stick out (Fox channel excluded)

OK, I'm a rather pale Norwegian, so the rage of the drunken irish might not reach me, but blacks, hispanics and asians have been just as welcoming and friendly when I have met them.

If you want to stereotype your own people, feel free to do so, but really . . . if we just for one minute forget invasions, bombings and Guantanamo Bay . . . you are actually quite a charming bunch.

( ... of course, I have never been to New York..)
