If you are to lazy to use the system like it is supposed to be used then you only weaken it. Self signed certs should really only be used for testing. If you don't want to pay one trillion dollars for a certificate, create your own authority and get your users to trust you:
Tools > Options... > Advanced > View Certificates > Authorities > Import...
