A good teacher can teach without technology. In this day and age, many kids have computers at home, and if they don't, lots of libraries do.
My son got in trouble for enabling the IE bar on the taskbar - he got an inschool suspension over it. Why? Because the people who use the technology to teach with didn't understand that it was a feature of the operating system - not something he hacked. He also had to spend time turning a science report into a web page. I hardly think these are things that a) he couldn't learn at home and b) are necessary to a 7th grader.
A good teacher can teach without materials, books, technology - it is the teacher who does the teaching, not the tools/toys. That school district needs to focus on personnel and not technology that's going to be obsolete in a couple of years.
Since there aren't any moving parts inside the processor, processor load is unlikely to wear it out. It is more likely that a processor will fail due to issues with cooling and from being turned on and off frequently.
So keep that Seti@Home going!
On the applications you get in the mail, there is a phone number you can call that will give you the option of opting out of receiving any marketing materials, credit card applications, etc. This is linked to all three credit reporting agencies, which is where a lot of these places get your information to send you stuff.
When you call the phone number, you have the option of opting out for 2 years or permanently. The permanent option means they have to send you something to sign that you then return. This process takes about 6 weeks to take effect, but it works. I opted both myself and my husband out and we don't get any more of those stupid credit card offers any more.
As to the credit card, most of the ones I've seen, even renewals, you have to call and activate. So cut it up and throw it away. And don't throw away your personal information in public - invest in a shredder!:-)
Apple also announced releasing new versions of iCal and iSync today:
http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2003/oct/08ical_is ync.html
"iSync 1.2.1 adds complete calendar synchronization support for Symbian-based smartphones such as the Nokia 3650 and 7650, and the Sony Ericsson P800."
To actually be able to see the route that Lewis and Clark et al took on their expeditions from above will be quite a boon to history buffs and genealogists alike.
if you take a look over at Savefarscape.com's news, they have an article posted about it. I've heard some rumors about Showtime maybe picking up Farscape - don't know how reliable the rumors are, might just be hopeful speculation.

The controlled conduction of electrons is what happens when you plug it in and flip the on switch. :-P
" It doesn't have any electronic parts.." So that was a hand-crank gasoline engine vacuum cleaner then, eh? ;-)

Looks like a job for Gregory Aharonian, who has busted a lot of patents in the past that had a basis in "prior art".

I should say interesting boon to history buffs and genealogists alike provided that NASA can keep a lid on their own internal struggles.
