Until we open up the system by publicly financing campaigns - either a complete Clean Money approach ala Arizona, Maine, and Hopefully massachusets (though thats a mess right now...), or a system of matching funds that effectively destroys the influence of direct donations ala New York Cities 3-1 match for small donations.
Until we do that, we're going to be stuck with corruption and oligarchy for a loooooooooong time...
