Great post. But I think bandwidth can actually transform society -- maybe even as profoundly as the reduction of latency. Today's bandwidth allows the transmission of relatively simple messages. We can watch CNN and get to see short video clips and sound samples. Those messages are rather abstract, highly edited, and their true meaning is often lost in the process.
But what if we had enough bandwidth to immerse ourselves into the current environment of, say, Kosovo? Being able to virtually "be" at places while important events are happening would definitely change the way society experiences news and maybe even change our perception of current events.
