I agree. What's the point of cloning the gui "theme" of windows? To draw in lawsuits?

I think if people want to use Linux they should learn how to use it. Forget the gui! Understand the OS, and more importantly, the philosophy of why you'd want to use an open source OS. There are so many windows emulators out there you'd think no one wants to run Linux.

Besides, so many people complain that windows users are idiots. This seems to be just a way to keep them stupid. "Now you don't even have to learn anything new to use linux". Ok, great, but then what's the advantage of using linux?

After it finishes off the 'roos, it literally jumps for joy and even flips as it stumbles upon a herd (I guess that's what you'd call it) of ostrichs... also running for their lives as the robot has already multiplied and is now ready to feed extra hungry mouths.... see a pattern?

I'm sure the dinosaurs will be characters of their recent movie "Dinosaur"... Hopefully they won't use D.B. Sweeny as a voice for it! Can you imagine dispatching the first (and most boring, thanks D.B.) walking animatronic dinosaur!

Disney being Disney will probably make the majority of this thing with some super weather resistant foam... that way, no one gets hurt around it. Of course, as soon as it starts walking around the parks (Believe me, it will be escorted by Disney folks as they escort all other Characters, the stream of B.S. lawsuits begins... "It ate my kids arm" (With it's foam teeth and mouth that doesn't open)...

I worked for the Mouse at Disney MGM Studios in 2000 on an internship, and saw some of the dumbest things ever! People actually try to get their kids hurt their so they can sue the mouse and retire. Parents putting their kids up on those high up walls where they put plants (incidentally, they're high up on purpose so kids can't reach them on their own and get hurt) so that they fall and hurt themselves.

Of course, Disney being a big company will try to settle with these completely, in most cases, sickening things that parents encourage their kids to do because Disney doesn't want it plastered all over the news. Some people try this and then sue Disney (settlements be damned)... big mistake! Enter the Disney legal team (we all know and love)...

Let's say, this, the Mouse is cute and cuddly, If you play nice on its terms. If you mess with it, it will bend you over and, it's hung like a rhino! Don't sue the Mouse!

I agree 100% with you. Because DELL is in the business of making money! Their "discounted" pricing schemes help them run that much leaner. That's why DELL is doing so much better financially than its competitors and its profit margins are so much higher.

Besides, as a DELL technician, I'm sure you didn't get phones ringing off the hook asking for Linux. I would venture to guess that most of the people that want to install other OS's on their machines fall into this category of build it yourself. Linux and other similar OS's are fantastic but are so far a niche market (for consumer PC sales). Hobbyists and enthusiasts will enjoy them while others probably will ask what the big deal is... "You mean I can't install my screensaver I've used for the last 3 years?"

In fact, most people I know that buy computers build their own and see some of the all-integrated component PC's that DELL (no offense), and Gateway, and HP-Compaq mainly sell as somewhat inferior and outdated to what they can build on their own (for less, in most cases). Or, in other cases, they own lots of components already and just upgraded a few pieces at a time (new Motherboard, CPU, and memory every few years (cause how often do you need to upgrade your CPU case, or CRT, or keyboard, or mouse, or printer, speakers, or CD drive? I'm not a gaming enthusiast and upgrading my MB, CPU, and memory typically gives the necessary extra punch to do the job) recycling the ones that don't need upgrading.

I've found FrontPage lets people make pretty sophisticated web site / database interaction without having to know much about the underpinnings. This is good for beginners or people that just don't have any time to devote to the technology of their web site and would rather focus on their products.

On the other hand, Dreamweaver is much more in tune for people that work with a wider range of platforms. It's not as easy to use per say. Of course, for the people that hate GUI web site design / editting, it won't satisfy them anyhow. It seems to be one of the more popular products with more experienced developers who don't have time to hand code.

I donno, now it gives more people an excuse to hate Macromedia! That sucks, they already get a bad enough rap from people these days.

Shameless plug for Wal Mart, but at Midnight on the night Episode II was released, it was $9.97 on DVD in your choice of Standard or Widescreen! That's worth Staying up for, considering it sits on their shelves now for a whopping $21!!!

  11. Re:Wonder what special features.. on DVD Review: Back to the Future Trilogy (Widescreen) · · Score: 1

There's also 2 music videos in the trilogy box as well as tons of original production art and concept work (if you're into that as I am).

The video quality and remastering is spectacular (even side by side with the laser-disc screencaps I've seen). It is truly nice! Also, in the first movie you get the original theatrical ending (sans the "To be continued..." blurb added later).

The Dolby Digital 5.1 sound is spectacular (beats the living daylights out of the video tapes and is, of course, carefully and meticulously remastered) and sounds just as good as any DTS feature I've watched. What I understand is that the team wanted to fit more extra features (believe me each DVD disc is absolutely chock full!) on the discs so they opted away from the DTS sound. Bob Gale said, in not so many words, that the Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS sound were virtually indistinguishable anyhow. Personally, I'm happier having the extra features on the DVD. I mean, it's already three DVD's, if they wanted to do DTS and tons of extra features they would have had to make double sided DVD's that are annoying (In my opinion) and so much more prone to being ruined if not handled extremely gingerly.

Aside from that, I've read a lot about how the video formatting (the widescreen version) is flawed or something like that... I found pictures of what the flawed DVD looks like and what the laserdisc looks like... I'll have to say, it doesn't look anything like an issue of matting... they simply zoomed in more on the character's face than the laser disc did!

With that said, I didn't find it annoying (or even notice the "flaw" until numerous enthusiast sites pointed it out). It is one of my favorite movies, but I don't think it takes anything away from the enjoyability of the movie.

In any case, as the following site states, there apparently will be a way to exchange the "flawed" discs 2 & 3 in February for ones that have been corrected... I've sent email to Universal myself to make sure the address there is correct just now (don't want to send my DVD's I've waited years and years for to the wrong address!). While I'm waiting to hear from the Horse's mouth on this one, check out this link with info about the exchange...

I suppose the problem is a public perception that Linux should be competition to Windows. I don't think it was ever intended to be competition and Linus' statements certainly back that up.

Besides, there are plenty of projects out there already to emulate Windows on Unix (heck, there's plenty to emulate Linux for Windows). That's fantastic! Perhaps, someday, you will actually have something lower level (I think there's been posts recently on /. but I didn't have time to delve too deep into the tech) that allows you to run multiple OS's at the same time (not running emulation of one on top of the other as most current solutions do).

I'm gonna sound like a total fence-rider here, but there are perks to various OS's (and using various may make your job easier by being able to use the best software for the solution, not the best software for your OS or platform)...

Why not be able to have a window open using the latest Windows CAD or 3D software, while having Mac Video editing software open in another window, and using GIMP on Linux? This is addressed, I think in VMWare?!? I forget, but hopefully someday we'll also be able to make all OS's portable enough to run on any hardware and use OS's for what they do best... Windows for Games and CAD, OSX for Video and Graphics Editing, and Linux for Server functionality / General desktop features.
