  1. Re:The Biggest Problem With Linux on Groklaw Tries Their Own Linux Usability Study · · Score: 1

    Do you honestly think your grandma would have the same chance of success installing an application under Linux as Windows? No matter what distribution, you are living in fantasy land if you honestly think that the millions of bewildering components, options, and procedures that are inherent to Linux sum up to be as easy or easier than Windows, or OSX.

  2. Re:EASIER SETUP! on Groklaw Tries Their Own Linux Usability Study · · Score: 3, Interesting

    Maybe it's fairly easy to install and use Linux; at least to you and me. However, what about the legions of AOL users who can barely check their email without having their hand held? Do you honestly think that they would be able to use Linux on a day to day basis without problems?

    I personally like Linux, and think that it is the most powerful home operating system out there. However, I wish people would stop saying that Linux is the Windows killer, and just call linux what it is: a powerful hobbyist OS. Noobs/ lazy people need not apply.

    Surely, the biggest problem with linux is the very problem that Groklaw is attempting to address -- usability. Admit it, the learning curve for linux is huge, like it or not.

    Linux will never be able to truly have a mainstream challenge to Windows until it applies the tried and true formula of Microsoft, AOL, and all of those massive software companies.

  4. Is it really necessary? on Schneier on National ID Cards, Key Escrow Locks, E-voting · · Score: 5, Interesting

    I don't thing that it is really necessary to have standardized national ID cards.. the money required to implement such a massive project would be substantial.. and the gain is not clear. Why would having national ID cards help TSA identify people any better than state ID cards such as drivers licenses, and government issued IDs such as military identification cards?

    fucking dumbass. "potentially" != "possibly"

    From Dictionary.Com: potential (p-tnshl)
    adj.

    2. Having possibility, capability, or power.

    As a side note, this article was not meant to be overly sensational journalism, and it is news. Yes, it is true that this practice has been going on for a long time, however, this is the first real instance in which Intel copied AMD, instead of the opposite.

    It is evident that Intel was caught off guard by the AMD64, and for the first time they were forced to take a page out of AMD's book concerning their own x86 technology.

    First of all, as a network administrator of that large a network, you should be able to find your own fucking network utilities. I mean god.. make yourself useful. Anyways, here is my two cents: Etherpeek. Its $$$, but its by far the best packet sniffing software I've ever used. The user interface is very inuitive. Additionally, its one of the most powerful sniffing suites I've used. In short: if you have the money, get Etherpeek.

  8. Pitiful. on TeacherReviews.com Forced Offline · · Score: 1

    This is just pitiful; the very prinicipal that the site is supposed to stand for (an open forum of objective reviews) will be completely trashed by allowing every professor that wants it to privatize their reviews. Its just despictable that one professor could scare Dylan Greene's pants off to the degree that he would take down the site. Fight the fight! The law is clearly on your side...
