I'm running a LinuxFromScratch system and I boot in under 8 sec (12 if you include X start times). This is w/ the 2.4.2x series kernel. W/ the 2.6.x series kernel, my boot times drops by about 3-4 sec. (yay). Now I find out I can start my services even faster!. (double yay)
What are the start times of other distros out there?
PS my hardware is Athlon XP 1700, (1.5GHz) 256MB 2100DDR Nvidia nForce1 MainBoard Nvidia GForce 4 MX 440
Sorry, I know I'm no expert, but this idea raises certian questions w/ me and my friends.
But how can it be ethical or moral to patent well ethical AI. The idea of a truly ethical AI implies that it is a free-willed Intelligent creation able to decren the difference between right and wrong and thusly able to act upon thoes decisions, in relation to the context of the situation.
To argue that there can be no such advance in AI is to argue that planes do not fly, so please do not reply w/ this common overused arguement.
To me the patent seems to contradict ethics in general.
I don't need people to see me in some splashs screen. In fact I presonaly hate splas screens, and remove them from every opensource project I use.
It would be nice to see an "about" dialog w/ credit to thoes who helped, but to make something like that mandatory is rather asburd, and pointless. An example situation is found above; The developers will just make a new liscens w/o the "credit clause". Mr. Reiser isn't the first to suggest this, but his FS is used by many (not me tho, I don't like it)

I was disappointed to see that there was not an included compaison of the .sh (or other script) wrapped packages (usually .tar.gz (.tgz) or .tar.bz2).
