I have thought about using the SonicBlue Rio Digital Audio Receiver to play MP3 and WMA across a network. It's small in size yet has a small amp to power local speakers and seems like a good satellite location solution.
While it may be orphaned due to the buy out of SonicBlue, the device seems so simple I don't think much could go wrong.
It's about US $75 on eBay. Note that it was also offered in a Dell version I believe.
The AudioTron is a good solution if you need Internet Radio. It is also offered (or used to be anyway) by Gateway.
