  1. Closer to 4.5 hours Re:Very disappointing, IMO on On The Dune Miniseries · · Score: 1

Don't forget that the 6 hours of which you and a few other posters speak includes lengthy commercial breaks. Total content is probably closer to 4.5 hours. Still plenty of time to work with though.

  2. BeOS is marvelous Re:Developer Rush on Get QNX For Free · · Score: 1

I'm using BeOS as I type and I must say, I absolutely love it. I donwloaded R5 a few days ago and I plan on trying to transfer my dad once I hack a bookmark porting script. The beauty of Be is that you get the ease of use of a magnificent GUI while still having the power of UNIX available when you need it.

You make a good point about design limiting use. Linux is my primary OS but I could never see my father, sister or anyone I know, for that matter, making the switch. Too much effort and understanding is required to 'get things done'. BeOS, on the other hand, is a breeze. A more feature-rich browser and better hardware support are the only two shortcomings as I see it. But It appears that BeZilla is in the works. Hooray!

  3. Futile efforts: the cat is out of the bag on Preliminary Injunction Issued in DVD CCA Case · · Score: 1

I personally don't think it even matters who wins this case. The cat is already out of the bag. In order to prevent the use of the crack for piracy in the future, the encryption will need to be improved anyway. And I'm quite sure that financial gain is not the objective here.

Any enterprising geek will be able to find information about the crack because it will be impossible to completely stifle something like this. I specify geek here because I can't imagine that the average DVD buyer cares too much for this sort of thing, if he/she is even aware of it. The average user will just by the appropriate player.

For some reason, companies just feel obligated to sue. Perhaps to maintain the status quo. Maybe they'll get over it some day.
