  1. How about Jerome Lemelson? on Location-Based Search Was Patented In 1999 · · Score: 1

Can anyone site a successful patent-suing model as a sole means to wealth?

How about Jerome Lemelson who made 1.5 billion (Yup that's a B) through Submarine Patents.

Fortune had a pretty extensive article on him in the May 14th, 2001 issue. Here is a link to the article detailing his exploits...

  2. Re:My content, my rules on Congress Must Make Clear Copyright Laws · · Score: 1
There are reasons why people should be allowed access to your content despite your wishes and your claim of ownership:

    1. No man lives on an island. You may claim that your content is your own creation but in fact it has been influenced by society and a lot of other "content" that you might be in contact with. Even something that you read or saw or heard years ago might influence the content that you create. In fact there are quite a few philosophers that believe that humans do not really create anything but only imitate what they see/acquire during their lifetime. Hence you are required give back to society in return.

    2. Other people might need access to your content for derivative works. For example to criticize your content or to create a parody of it. This is especially important for intellectual works since all intellectual works build upon other pieces of work.

    3. Finally, for your content to have any meaning, people need to copy it. They might simply "copy" a representation of it in their brains. Or they might need to copy an exact version of it to access it in the digital world. For example. you need to copy a web page in order to view it. Same for online music or videos. Also search engines like google need to copy your data to work effectively - and you need such services to allow people to discover and find your work.

Hence, the only real way of preventing your content from being copied is to keep it private and not to share it with everyone. Of course, if everyone thought like that it would be the end of all progress and civilization as we know it.

Hinduism does not have a single uniform belief system but is a conglomerate of diverse beliefs and traditions. There is no central authority guiding the masses nor is there any central book or scripture guiding the belief. Instead hindus are encouraged to find their own way/path to God, even if that is different from everyone else's.

Therefore you will find all kinds of divergent belief systems in Hinduism - from the Kamasutra (which incidentally was written by a priest) to your set of voodoo priests that condemn "bad content". Hinduism does not state one as right and the other as wrong. Instead find your own path.

This in no way means that Hinduism is not being hijacked by the moral police who are quick to condemn "bad content" as "western influences".

More on topic, IIT is supposed to be a secular institute run by the government which is supposed to have nothing to do with Hinduism or any other religion.

I agree with most of your post except the following:

Certainly it cannot be the modification process itself, since it uses natural enzymes.

Just because it's natural does not mean that its non-toxic. There are a lot of poisonous enzymes that occur naturally in the environment. For example, naturally occurring almonds have a poisonous enzyme. A quote from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Almond):

The bitter almond is rather broader and shorter than the sweet almond, and contains about 50% of the fixed oil which also occurs in sweet almonds. It also contains the enzyme emulsin which, in the presence of water, acts on a soluble glucoside, amygdalin, yielding glucose, cyanide and the essential oil of bitter almonds or benzaldehyde.
  5. Re:Its the Economics, STUPID on Private Data Sold From Indian Call Center · · Score: 1

I beg to differ... The wages that an Indian worker gets might be low compared to the wages in the US but they are significantly higher than the average wage in India. In fact, if you take purchasing power parity (PPP) into account, an Indian call center employee can probably afford a higher standard of living than the people they are serving. Hence, Indian call center employees are likely to be a lot happier than the same employees in the US...
