"With the 'default' society with no religion, a system of natural selection would have existed within the tribe. While there may have been stronger individuals within that tribe, the 'religious' societies produced stronger tribes as a whole."

I disagree. Natural selection doesn't mean "strong people beat up weak people", it means things become more efficient at survival. In the case of humans, who only survived in groups, this would mean groups would evolve toward cooperation. A group of cooperative people has a better chance of success than groups where the weaker half are in fear of being trashed by the stronger half. The latter would only discourge the weak from contributing to a system that did not protect them. Thus evolution would tend toward cooperative groups with or without religion. I believe the Golden Rule, 'do unto others as you would have others do unto you' probably preceeds religion by a long shot. In fact, since humans tend to react, then use their brain to justify what they did, I suspect religion was invented to justify the Golden Rule.

"why does time seem to flow into a single direction?"

Doesn't quantum mechanics say that there are random events in the universe, like when will a radioactive nucleus emit a particle? In that case (IMHO), the flow of time is required for the realization, or resolution, of random events. You can't have random events without a 'before' the event and an 'after' the event, the flow of time is from the before to the after.

I understand that the canonical form of Relativity has no variable t. Some say this means that all of time coexists. However, the flow of time is required to resolve all random events, after which all of time can coexist as one big block. Thank God we only experience consciousness in the flow of time, so even if all of time exists at the end of time, at least we will not be left forever experiencing our existence.

    "Iran hangs three in south-west"
We are in good company here, not only do we execute plenty of people, but don't we have the highest per capita incarceration rate in the world?

"Western countries on Thursday voiced concern at the rising number of executions in Iran"
Didn't Bush and Texas execute a horrific number in his term as governer?

Most of the rest of the statements on this site are about public hangings. At least they have the honesty to execute people in public, in this country we hide from our executions, so people never really 'know' in a gut sense what they are paying for.
