  1. Not that big of a deal for desktop users on Microsoft Releases Eight Security Updates · · Score: 2, Insightful
I'm going to pass on this patch, these vulnerabilities are hardly what I would call 'critical' for an xp sp2 home desktop user.
    • If you have XP Service Pack 2, and are behind a router, the ICMP vulernability is a non-issue. Your router responds to pings, not your computer.
    • If you use Mozilla Firefox, the IE vulnerability is a non-issue as well.
    • The Exchange vulnerability is a non-issue for desktop users.
    • If you use MSN messanger, update. I don't.
    • If you open other peoples word documents, update. I use Abiword, or let google translate them to html.

A 2ghz Athlon can pull just over 3 GFlops.

The T90 had 32 x 450mhz CPUs that could do 4 ops per cycle, which comes out to 1.8GFlops per chip and 57.6Gflops for the whole shebang.

The real differnce however is not raw cpu horsepower, but memory bandwidth, latency, and scaling. I don't know nearly enough about supercomputers to be able to explain that in detail.

The Panasonic Panaflo is rated for 28 dBA, 2450 RPM at 12 volts. Many of these PSU's control rpm by temperature, so the fan hardly ever spins at the full rated RPM, therefore emitting less than 28 dBA. Dan

  4. This isn't news. on Crack Windows XP With... Windows 2000 · · Score: 1

"According to this story seen on Brian's Buzz on Windows, access to a Windows 2000 CD is all that is needed to bypass all (well, most) Windows XP security" As well as physical access to the computer, the ability to reboot it, and the ability to boot from cdrom. If I have all those, only encryption is going to stop me. -Dan
