From what I've studied of linguistic transcription (read: English Geek present), it is normally considered a big faux pas to include emphasis notation (italics, excessive exclaimation marks) in interviews, especially in consideration of journalistic integrity. Just the way the interview is transcribed and edited in itself makes me skeptical.
