3Com's new drivers _do_ fix problems with some of their newer cards. for the last few weeks i have been wrestling with one of the newer 3c905xx cards, trying to force it to go half-duplex, to no avail. these new drivers work like they are supposed to for the newest nic's -- and GPL'd to boot. i say, way to go 3Com.
i get a javascript error when i try to view this site... when i look at the javascript console in netscape, all it tells me is "Windows is not defined." how true it is.
Unlike copying VHS to VHS, which degrades things, copying DVD to DVD should result in a perfect copy. It's all digital, so bit-for-bit copies should be just as perfect as the original, which would make for some nasty piracy.
this is not quite correct, open dvd comes with some rather potent copy protection. http://www.macrovision.com/
what's the difference between the audio on dvd-video disks now and dvd-audio? i've heard dvd's with only music recorded in 24/96 that sound pretty great -- why do we need a new standard, what's the difference?
woah! i feel sorry for the admin with this kid on his network... maybe you should rethink what you're saying here. what if someone root's your machine, then roots one of the school's machines, and screws something up. now you're responsible because you ignored security issues on your personal machine. the network can only be as secure as it's weakest link, which in this case would be you. and precisely how does a firewall prevent students from learning?
i'd just like to give another thanks to all the kernel hackers who worked towards 2.2, and all the slashdot readers who've been there. it's been a pleasure to learn linux with you all!
