Way too pricey.I use a mondial cellphone with a built in 115,000 bps modem and a second hand psion 3a for mobile comms. Total cost 85ukp. I run a vt100 emulator and log into a unix box that is connected to the net. Using mutt for e-mail and lynx for text only web browsing, I reckon it's a really cost effective package. Phones not dual band tho'. I wish the ericsson sh888 used rs232 over its serial connection!
Actually, nominets RRP (recommended retail price) for a co.uk domain IS still £80. To get one for a fiveryou have to be a nominet member. This enables companies such as the one you mention to offer "free" domain registration for £80. Unscrupulous -yes. Illegal-no. Let the buyer beware.......
I'll second that too! They even answer the phone and help you straighten out problem over disputed ownership etc. I can't get sensible automated responses to internics own forms even for something as simple as changing an admin handle.
When are internic going to get their act together?
Hi, We can do your.org registration, but as you may be aware, the registrars now want payment upfront. So with less than a week to go, youd better get your freind in England to arrange payment with us toot sweet

I used to be an engineering machinist for a Swiss multinational in England. We used the "Metric inch" as we used both metric and imperial measurement. The big advantage of the metric inch is that it gives 1mm=40 thou.
The metric inch was adopted as the ISO (International standards organization) standard quite a long time ago now, though I don't know the ASA (American Sytandards Association) position on this.
As an engineering machinist I worked for a swiss multinational in England. We had to use both systems and convert freely between them. In practice, 40 thou is deemed to be 1mm, this is the metric inch. The true imperial inch is slightly shorter however, 1mm = 39 thou + some microns. I wonder if this had anything to do with it?
In my experience, we used to operate a milling machine to an accuracy of 0.02mm = 3/4 of 1 thou
Before becoming a sysop I was a shop floor engineering machinist. In practice ruler measurements closer than 1/50th" or 1/2mm cannot easily be seen by naked eye. 1/50"= 20 thou 1/2mm= 20 thou
If greater accuracy is required a vernier type guage is used. I always found it easier to read an imperial vernier than a metric, because the inch is subdivided in a more immediately recognisable way than the metre. However there is no real difference in the accuracy with which the two systems can be used.
Some errors in conversion can occur when the difference between the "metric inch" (where 40 thou is deemed equal to 1mm), and the true imperial inch where 1mm = 39 thou + some microns
I used to work for a swiss multinational which used both systems!
Don't underestimate Russian capabilities, after all they managed to keep a viable space station up top didn't they? Don't be swallowing the NSA's anti soviet propoganda now...
I live a couple of miles from the listening base in England you mentioned, and as I object not only to being spied on, but also being denied the right to roam freely round a large part of the countryside where I live, I joined a peaceful demonstration there a couple of years ago to register my protest at the Military presvence. We decided to go for a walk across the fields near the base on a public footpath which had existed long before the NSA and USAF got there. We were accosted by military personel touting sub machine guns who tried to intimidate us, but we walked across anyway. They kept referring to a big notice at the gate so when we got there I read it.( Had to step back quite a way as it was a huge wooden billboard about thirty feet across). I don't remember the exact words but it said something like:
FUCK OFF, YOU CAN'T COME IN, IT'S OURS.
so we burned it down.
A lot of top brass who were in the base for the July 4th bash came out as the fire brigade arrived to hose the blazing billboard down. I thought the CO was going to spontaneously combust for a while.
With typical brit humour someone camping nearby came over with some sausages and bbq relish and much to the annoyance of the Military we partied on late into the night outside the main gates.
OK it didn't further the fight against the erosion of our Liberty much, but at least we made them realise we were on their case!
BTW please repost the URL for the picture , it didn't show up in my browser
There is another simple file transfer program called plp by Philip Goodman which has an ftp style interface. I've only got it working one way at the mo' and Philips e-mail address is out of date in his plp_1_6 distribution. I got the source from a freinds magazine cover disk. If anyone knows of a later version or a way to get in touch with Philip please let me know. I haven't been able to get p3nfs to work with suse 6.1 - does anyone know of any problems with p3nfs compatibility with 2.2 kernels serial handling?
http://www.aj.com uses it's own engine and posts the query to all the other usual search facilities as well for a comprehensive search.
But why mess about, Google is 'da bizzness'

Glad to get that off my chest, thanks all!
