I recently got a LinkStation Pro Duo 1TB for backups at work - its very slow. A Duron based box (1Ghz) with 2, 3-4 year old IDE disk's transfers data nearly twice as fast over gigabit.
I can't get it to store timestamp's properly either.
I work for a small company, I get to see what happens when the marketing goes well.
We send out monthly HTML news letters - they work, we get bussiness. We also send out around 400,000 double sided flyers each year (yes 'junk' mail) and they work very well.
This is marketing, it works, thats why it's done that way.
Someone mod parent down.
My firend for some bent reason loves linksys stuff esp when i told him to buy other stuff.
His PCI wireless NIC randomly drops and he can't port forward on his ADSL router...

Although cheap, I would avoid Buffalo NAS boxes.

Sounds like a good case for a anti-trust trial in europe :-)
Not forgetting that in that price (unless I'm misreading the Sun website) is that you get a 3 year next day warranty - http://www.sun.com/service/warranty/entrylevelserv ers.html
