  1. Re:This is far too confusing on Another English/Metric "Spacecraft" Problem · · Score: 1

The 'English' system used in the USA isn't even the same as the Imperial system in Britain. If I ordered a pint of beer in a pub and got a US pint, I would complain. A British pint is more than 20% bigger!

  2. Try taking your glasses/lenses off on First Stereograms of Mars from Spirit · · Score: 1

Possibly the only useful thing about being short-sighted is that it can make viewing stereo images a lot easier. Just take your glasses off and you should find trying to focus slightly behind the image easier (i.e. the 'parallel method')

Well, it is possible that choking your uplink has freed enough of it so that communication to peers is increased..

That's a good point, and something more people need to be aware of. But it wasn't the problem in my case - I wasn't saturating the upstream.

So explain how I get 230K/s download with only 10K/s upload using the ABC client?

That isn't unusual. If there are plenty of uploaders with plenty of upstream capacity, you can expect fast downloads pretty much without uploading anything. The BitTorrent idea really comes into play when everyone is trying to download at the same time. It guarantees some level of fairness since other clients will give you faster downloads if you are being generous in uploading to them.

Strange things do still happen though. Sometimes my download rate will actuially increase when I throttle back on my uploading. I'm not sure what the other peers are thinking when they let that happen!

They use the acronym WOPR in the article and i think they just might mean Weapon of Public Relations

Considering the earlier reference in the article to WarGames, I think it's safe to say they are using WOPR to mean "War Operations Plan and Response".

  6. I got a scam-mail doing a similar thing last week on New IE Bug Hides Real Site Address · · Score: 1

Even before this quite alarming security hole in IE was known, I got an email directing me to a fake eBay.com website which had a fake address bar.

It was an HTML email, so the URL shown in the email looked legit at first glance, and it then took me to a webpage which was obviously fake since I was using Moz. However, in IE it would have looked more convincing since it had hidden the real address bar, and then made a fake address bar using javascript and what-not.

This was by far the most convincincing such scam I've received, and I imagine most people using IE could have believed it. Although I doubt many people are insane enough to fill in all their financial details including PIN into a webpage!

I don't remember Mr Cox making any such drastic remarks. And he has been pretty vocal in his opposition to the EUCD as well.

In any case, lately he has been too busy breaking, sorry upgrading the SUCS server... and translating everything into Welsh.

Well, the laser might be powering the plane, but that doesn't mean any beam fired back from plane to ground has to be as powerful. It could just use a much weaker beam to transmit data back to earth.
