  1. Eliminating the iBook on PowerPC 750GX Begins Sampling Next Month · · Score: 5, Insightful

"Or, maybe, they will kill the iBook altogether in favor of the 12" AlBook." Apple still needs a sub $1000 laptop for college students that provides e-mail, web browsing, instant messaging and small ventures into the graphical arts. There is no way a PowerBook would ever breach the $1000 barrier... The G3 processor still has legs. My iMac DV Special Edition (purchased in 1999) runs Jaguar quite well with only 256MB of RAM at a 400Mhz clock speed. Throw a 1.1Ghz G3 with 512MB RAM and that would be one kickass machine. It would run quietly, have a more compact design and offer speeds that would, if not by benchmark than by real-world usage, equal that of a much-higher clocked Pentium 3.

Could someone who has used Dasher take the time to give me their take on it? I'm wondering how useful it is and if it is worth giving a look-see... Help a Hebrew out.

  4. Re:not sure why anyone would want to?! on Use Xbox Controller on Mac OS X · · Score: 2, Flamebait

Are you trying to tell me that the Xbox controller is "good?" Have you ever played a game with those awful things? The black and white buttons are nearly impossible to find when you need them and the thing is just overly large. Even the smaller version of the controller is poorly designed -- same ol' problem trying to find your buttons -- but at least there's not a huge amount of wasted plastic mass. Look at the PS2 or GameCube controllers -- they are both much more functional and easy on the hands. I think your post would be great if the article you're responding to was any system *other than* the Xbox.

Interesting points. But as someone already pointed out re: Apple/Tivo, Jobs is not a huge fan of television. I don't think it would be a bad idea. I just don't think it would be a good idea. Lets let Apple get around to creating a bit more usable file system in their personal computers before they go tinkering around with television. Anyways, I always think back to the Pippen when folks wax sentimental about Apple and television. I just don't see it happening. But what do I know.

  6. I dunno... on Should Apple Buy TiVo? · · Score: 5, Interesting

Is it really necessary for Apple to begin incorporating all these 'traditional,' and I use the term loosely, media devices into their collective? I'm as big a fan of Apple as they come -- I just think that at some point they might be stretching themselves thin. It's not a stretch for Apple to tackle television recording as the next big thing. I'd just rather they spend their time doing something a bit more related to the field of personal computing. But hey, maybe we'll see the return of those Apple TV/Tuner cards like the one in my Ancient Performa 6320. Those were pretty nifty....when I was in middle school. ;)
