Just a thought. If you really need 2-factor authentication, setup the reverse proxy (unless you can get TiVo to require SSL client-side authentication). Pick up a smart card and reader from http://www.cardstore.slb.com/. I recommend the CyberFlex E-gate for this as it will reduce you overall costs and give you MAXIMUM convenience. Once you get this all set up (you may want to visit the M.U.S.C.L.E. site if you're using Linux or Mac OS X or other un*x variants), go to your favorite free-cert provider like Thawte/Verisign. When you generate your keys, be certain to instruct your smart card to do the work. Next, configure your web-server (TiVO or Apache) to require client-side SSL authentication and specifically, your certificate. Viola! Two-factor authentication. In this case, your private key makes your smart card very unique (what you HAVE) and you should set a PIN on your smart card to protect it (what you KNOW). If you're really up for a project, add some biometric (what you ARE) card-authentication for 3-factor authentication.
I had the impression that VASIMR engines were the next big thing in rocket engines and that these were close to being ready. Perhaps these will use nuclear fuel for energy and will be used in this mission to Mars? Anyone know the scoop on this?
I'm using SWB ADSL and I am sure I live fairly far ~17 kilo-feet from the switch. THe max distance is supposed to be 19 kilo-feet so I feel pretty lucky to be getting anything above 384 Kbs.
If you have a home security system, MAKE SURE that your ADSL signal is NOT running through it. Normally, all phone lines go to the security system first and then back to the house lines so that it can preempt any calls in progress if needed to alert the monitoring service.
In my case, before the security system was even turned on, it knocked over 240 Kbs off my line speed. Once the system was turned on, my ADSL modem wouldn't even sync to SWBells signal. (The security system seemed to also be adding about 50v DC to the line!)
Today was a frustrating day rewiring things in an attic in HOUSTON of all places, but, in the end, I ended up "cleaning" my signal and now I enjoy about 1100 Kbs or about 120 KBs! Not bad for 17Kft!
