Well, You're partially right anyhow. I was hired by Six Apart only slightly more than a month ago and anything that I have my hand on will take a little time to simmer in development.
However, they did NOT hire me "specifically to integrate MT-Blacklist". Just because they hire me does not give them the right to my software.
They hired me because I am a damn good Product manager (not project manager mind you) who also happens to have more hands-on experience with Movable Type than just about anyone else in the world not already working at Six Apart.
Now, certainly, my experience fighting comment spam will help us put up the best defense possible, but my job here isn't over when comment spam is finished on the MT platform.
Unfortunately, the image recognition type of CAPTCHAs don't tell the difference between humans and computers. They tell the difference between humans and humans without perfect vision.
It's a miserable, ego-centric solution (because by using it, the site owner assumes everyones is like he/she is) and should not be perpetuated.
Lots of people have mentioned Bayesian filtering. My plan with MT-Blacklist has always been to hook into Movable Type and then create what would essentially be a sub-plugin API. In that way MT-Blacklist becomes the engine that other people can write filters for.
If you use Movable Type, you are probably familiar with Text formatting filters. This would work in much the same way. Someone could hook in a Bayesian filter, or an IP filter, or a Swedish Chef filter. Whatever. It's coming...
Actually, a pack of Marlboros is about US$1.50 here. For that price, Hungarians could get some Americans to do their bidding...
And no one wears Levis here (I know). This is Europe after all....
I've asked Wired if they need an on-site investigative reporter. No word back yet.

Or if it is, no one has told me so.
Today, Six Apart responded to the comments, making some changes based on feedback and clarified the things that they didn't communicate well.
I've written my feelings already: pre- and post-clarification
