But he runs an amateur website. Darn Rob I thought you were making money at this. Linux mag must have been wrong back in 2000 when they discovered you and said you were doing quite well. I will write them a notice so Linux Mag can print a retraction.
By the by, the reason I read blogs, main stream media is so watered down I can't even taste it.
Take for example the recent piece in C|Net about why the FCC should go away. Gosh I wish I could sh*t words on paper / html and be called a reporter. I want a real newspaper!!
So exactly how do I remove the viruses that don't reside on my computer? These are the ones that generate all the crap traffic. I can drop at my router, but why should I clog my pipe. For the matter why would an ISP want to deal with traffic congestion on their core due to crap traffic?
My providor has placed traffic shaping on my stream before, both on their own because they were so congested (and they notified me), and also at my request.
The police patrol the street not my house on a regular basis, think about it!
We use Trend on our mail servers which is WONDERFUL. McAfee updates would crash our mail servers occasionally, Trend never has. Also it seems to have far better identification and irradication compared to McAfee.
Though this partnership seems odd.
It seems that you could achive similar results with an ids hooked into cisco ids ios that is already out there. I think the biggest problem is junk not getting blocked at the core. I don't have this problem with my provider they just wrote some rules that has really relieved Nachi congestion on my router. I know that some of the other provider REFUSE to do any traffic shapping for my other locations.
I also do egress filtering to make sure I am not the source of the problem.
Personally I think all the cable / dsl modems should BLOCK some of these ports, or at least slow the amount of traffic that is generated on these ports.
Honestly why in the world should a home user need to send icmp traffic to more than a few addresses within seconds.
Trust worthy computing
lets go over to cert and count with me
then hook this b$%ch into whatever iteration of directory services they come up with
I thought M$ was promising more security not less
maybe the lawsuits will help
was this the massive overhaul of the OS M$ was refering to?
Hey Bill FIX the FSCKING kernel!!
There are hotels and NOC running natural gas powered turbines, http://www.microturbine.com/
hell there are electrical co-ops running fuel cells
DOE has tons of research dedicated to this.
http://www.eere.energy.gov/
I suppose their not pervasive yet, but I am trying to install a microturbine with co generation (exhaust heats water/boiler/absorbtion chiller) here at work
it seems MS is runnning down another long dark hallway.
why not just spend more time coding software that doesn't allow privilage elevation?
imagine if ford came out to your house and put brand new firestones on because the tread shredded on the last pair.
bill pull you head out of your ass and FIX the PROBLEM.
Send your staff back to school at University of Leeds to learn how to write secure code.
I really don't remember reading this series. I do remember chewing through Tom Swift series though.
And Tom Corbett Space Cadet I still have 3 copies of my father's green hard backed books.
I really don't think it matters the nuances of the material, but rather something abit more poignant than the damn USA Today. These books were good exercise for the day when i would RTFM ! (Well LOTR, and then TFM)
I remember fighting with the local librarian to read At Dawn We Slept, she claimed that it was too advanced for my age, and that I needed my mothers permission to read it.
And as ashamed as I am to admit it, Hardy Boys, but that was mindless reading there, kinda of like having VH1 on in the background.
I wonder what other's have had as "foundational" reading
Access points at a payphone seems silly in the age of GPRS. I think most folks would rather have a GPRS/Bluetooth/Wi Fi combo card something like a Nokia D211 in their laptop. This way you could have solid coverage, but when you roll up into a HotSpot its free. Use a proxy and frame the content with ads. Maybe Verizion was thinking payphones inside of facilities, but T Mobile is aready making in-roads here with h-spots in airports, starbux, kinkos, etc..
I hated coming back to the States. I wish I brought my Pocket PC/GSM phone with instead of selling it, but T-mobile was just getting foot hold in Mid-West. I just hate hauling all this fscking equipment around(2way pager, palm, cell phone, laptop). At some point maybe the EU handie centric view will converge with the NA WiFi craze.

Its the spectrum for crying out loud. Its not like its a "real" journal. Its geared toward "pre-Engineers"
