You know, there is a section called the "fair use" clause in the U.S. Copyright Act that does allow you to legally reproduce materials for just such a purpose.

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act, the biggest dose of right-wing bullshit that freedom of expression has ever been dealt, specifically forbids you to copy anything copyrighted that was obtained in any digital form.
