  1. Re:IT majors entering college now are crazy on Offshoring IT · · Score: 1

Let's ship the development and control of US IT infrastructure overseas where others are responsible for our well being. ;) I've been a software/hardware engineer for 35 years, and have engaged in keeping my knowledge on par with the latest technologies. I've worked as a developer for Sun Microsystems, IBM, Netscape, Microsoft, and others. I can't make what I was getting paid 25 years ago. I've given up on the profession, and strongly advise everyone to look elsewhere in their education, unless you love it so much that you are willing to live like a monk.

The purpose of counting the number of web servers deployed, by type, is to reflect server mind share, but it most likely reflects the number of users running locked-in applications like Quickbooks, and Office. It doesn't reflect the number of "useful" or professional websites, that serve more than vanity pages. It would be more useful to count how many total page views per server type, enabling the discounting of vanity sites.

Here we are discussing the government using
computers to classify people as terrorists, to be
treated accordingly, like it was a reasonable thing to do.

The vicomp classified humans versus androids, who
where then put to sleep - even in the case of false positives.

TRUST THE GOVERNMENT - THEY ARE HERE TO HELP.

"Instead of sending future tech wealth abroad, we need to open our doors to more top foreign scientists. We're sending H-1B visa holders home with pink slips and a basket of skills they learned from U.S. companies. We should be giving the brightest of them research fellowships working for the Department Homeland Security."

The good old USA just doesn't have bright scientists available in this downturn to award research fellowships in the Department of Homeland Security. So, let's bring in H-1B scientists, that will be employed at taxpayer expense. Americans can eat cake.

I may be missing something here but if a company admin insists on scanning your computer for .mp2 or .ogg files just change the extension to something like .bin and play your music by selecting the 'open with' option of the popup menue.
